HEMS

All my favorite techniques using both the sewing machine and hand stitching. These videos are literally sewing gold. Hope you enjoy these.

THE BASICS

SIMPLE MACHINE HEMS

The simple machine help is excellent for most sewing projects. It's the basic technique you just need to know for a clean finish.

HAND HEMS

A hem is the finished edge of a garment, particularly at the bottom of a shirt, skirt, pants, or sleeves. On shirts specifically, hems provide structure and in this case the on trend look.

ROLLED EDGE HEM

A narrow rolled edge hem is delicate finishing technique used on lightweight fabrics. It features a tiny, tightly rolled edge where the fabric is turned under twice at minimal width.

SERGED EDGE HEMS - NARROW

The easiest hem of them all, simply serge (neaten) the edges and turn the hem up. Narrow or deep hem, it works for both. This is also great for thicker fabrics where you want to avoid bulk.

SERGED EDGE HEMS - DEEP

This video focuses on the deeper hem. How to measure and pin to get that perfect width and keep the distance to the edge spot on when you are topstitching.

ROLLED EDGE HEM - EXTENDED CUT

This video is the extended sew-along version of the rolled edge hem. Great for beginners, you can watch me sew this seam and follow every step at a much slower pace.

MITERED CORNERS - PART 1

Adding mitered corners is a fantastic way to make a blouse or pants pop. I have used them on the Beatrice blouse and the Audrey Capris. This video is focused on the corners. Watch Part 2 for the hem finish.

MITERED CORNERS - PART 2

In this video we are concentrating on topstitching the hem and the way you can get the topstitching absolutely spot on. Please remember you can also watch the Audrey Capris course to see how this works in pants.

LACE HEM

This method looks adorable. This layered lokk effekt can me achieved on a flower girl dress but also on any simple summer dress. It is super simple and I love to use it on skirts and dresses.

LACE HEM - FLAT

If you already followed the previous video, you might enjoy this one too. Here I borrowed a video from the Bonnie sewing course. I machine hemmed the skirt and used a plain lace with a gorgeous scallop edge.

HEM TRIM

A hem trim is always a great way to get round doing a hem at all. We simply create a finished hem trim and sew it to the skirt. Here I am working on my Betsy skirt, which has a placket down the center front.
