The Millie - Summer Dress

Sizes: Girls Age 2- 6

Your girl will love this dress which can be worn all year round. It has dainty elasticated puff sleeves which are simple to make with the help of a little elastic. If you prefer sleeves with a turn up just use your ‘western blouse’ sleeve it fits perfectly too. That is the amazing thing about my patterns, mash them together for a whole new look.

The back has an adorable V-neck which you can adorn with a bow or button. Because the front has a yoke you can mix and match fabrics to create a variety of fun looks. In the autumn and winter I would use a heavier cotton or even wool and style the dress with woolly tights and a long sleeved t-shirt.

This autumn I took the Millie and created the cutest little wrap over style in the back. You can see how this is done in one of the videos below. It’s not always necessary to buy a new pattern. At Frocks & Frolics we want to teach you how you can amend a pattern to create another stylish look from a range of base patterns. If you are an inventive person and want to show off what you can do you can participate in the affiliate partner program.

Whether you are an expert or just starting out the video tutorial will make it very clear what you have to do. If you are unsure if you can handle this pattern then simply watch the video below to reassure yourself before you purchase the pattern.

The pattern is available for immediate download so you can get started straight away.

None of my patterns are multi sized so there is one size per file, this saves a lot of paper and confusion as to which line you have to cut.

You’ll receive an email immediately after purchase with a link to download PDF files of the pattern and instructions, which you can print at home on either A4 or US Letter paper. When choosing the pattern make sure you tick which format you need. In the US and Canada choose US letter size which is wider and shorter than A4 paper. Everywhere else opt for A4 paper format.

Medium to heavier weight fabrics, plain weave cotton, cotton sateen, cord, chambray or denim, double knit with low stretch.

  • Fabric: 50 cm - 1 m depending on the size
  • Matching thread
  • 50 cm of slim elastic for the sleeves
  • Iron on interfacing (lightweight) for the yoke lining
  • Sewing machine and basic tools

Millie dress

Posted by Stella Jones on Jun 20th 2017
This is a lovely pattern with cute sleeves. I haven't quite finished the dress because I need some elastic for the sleeves, but so far, so good. I had a bit of a problem with the facings because I tried to do my own thing! Instead of joining the facings and than adding to the dress, I put the facings on individually. I thought it would be hard to get the facings to fit against the dress the other way. So, slap on wrist for me! I now face fitting the sleeves. The pattern is lovely, much better than those fiddly tissue ones. The help video was great , but a bit too fast for my level. I like to watch a bit of the video, then do the sewing, then watch a bit more. So please Marina, slow down a bit for we newbies. Otherwise, perfect.
