For years I had this plan of a princess series and finally I took the time to start and I must say I loved every minute of it.
This beautiful dress comes for ages 1-2 right up to 10-12.
Belle is the perfect princess dress. Two versions are included in this PDF Pattern complete with written tutorial but also including 4 video tutorials.
Just click on the video tab which is next to details and reviews.
This pattern is designed for beginners with a little bit of experience or what I call 'adventures beginners'. You don’t have to have extensive knowledge of sewing terms or techniques as you can follow me along and put those extra methods, so vital to stunning looking clothes, under your belt.
Do not be intimidated if you don't have much experience, just take your time, watch the video introduction, before you even look at the instructions.
The instructions go beyond what you would usually expect of written instructions. A sneak peak is also shown in the introductory video tutorial. As you learn more and more methods with the Frocks & Frolics library of patterns and our very own online Sewing Workshop, which is entirely free, you will be able to sew like a 'boss' before long.
The workshop can be found on You Tube but also under 'Learning to Sew' right here on frocksandfrolics.com.
This dress is much more than fancy dress and could be used for a special occasion such as a wedding too. Just imagine your little flower girl wearing this stunner of a dress. She would totally steal the show!
The sleeves can be made with gorgeous and delicate gathers or simply left plain. They are shaped so they really lay round over the shoulder, creating that classic fairy tale princess look.
Belle with the Panel Skirt
This will be your little girls dream dress-up gown, ready for any princess party! The best fabric for this dress is a double crepe back satin and if you are doing the knit back choose a fabric with excellent stretch recovery.
I always look for woven fabrics with a bit of Elastane or Lycra as this makes the dress comfortable to wear. As you won’t be able to iron the ruffle or pleated skirt you need a polyester satin.
Belle with the gathered Skirt
This version is perfect for your own photo shoot. Your girl will feel like a glamorous movie star in this over the top, drop dead gorgeous couture extravaganza! (not for a total beginner as it has a zip)
Choose your fabric with creative abandon! Anything goes for the Belle look; from satin to quilting cotton. You can iron this skirt so you aren’t limited to a non crease polyester satin. Taffeta would also be a wonderful choice and have a little rustle as she walks. Again a little stretch is never a bad thing even in woven fabrics, as it makes the dress more comfortable.
This dress would also make a beautiful flower girl dress in a rich Dupion silk. It’s cut well and does not necessarily rely on an elasticated back to look simply stunning.
My customers have told me that measurements are enough for rectangular skirts, instead of a pattern as it saves a lot of printing ink. So that is what I have done here. In fact any pattern you already have for a gathered skirt can be used.
